Working in the workplace practice of this rapidly expanding global independent IT consultancy, you will ideally currently be working in a senior technical consultancy or pre-sales consultancy and possess significant experience in a relevant area. 

The Networking arena is one of constant development and as such clients look to PTS to provide the relevant advice, guidance and services to assist them and as such, the role of a Network consultant is critical in ensuring project success. 

Responsibilities

Network consultants are responsible for providing professional services in the enterprise networking field to PTS clients throughout the strategic procurement and implementation stages of projects. This encompassing, but not limited to: 

  • Engaging and understanding the business needs of the client
  • Defining the relevant technologies to meet the business needs 
  • Formulating the business needs and technology requirements into a written strategy 
  • Presenting and justifying the strategy to both technical and non-technical client teams and senior management
  • Running competitive procurement exercises
    • Developing specifications and writing ITTs and RFPs
    • Evaluating and analysing responses
    • Vendor management
  • Project managing the implementation of the chosen technologies and services

In addition to delivery responsibilities, Network consultants are expected to:

  • Have strong interpersonal skills
  • Be able to command and empathise with client teams
  • Manage multiple simultaneous assignments and clients
  • As required, spend a significant amount of time on client sites in geographically dispersed locations
  • Be at the forefront of technology through a continuous program of self-development 

Characteristics and skills: 

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and personal qualities:

  • A self-motivated individual that can work both in isolation and in a team as necessary with effective time management
  • Asserts ownership of project/tasks to ensure completion within the applied constraints
  • To understand technology in this area and its application to achieve business benefit
  • Able to communicate complex issues simply within the business context, either orally or written 
  • Can demonstrate subject matter expertise in one or more technology domains both internally and externally
  • Able to compile reports and project documentation to a high standard
  • Can interface as a peer with client staff at all levels for requirements gathering
  • Can present ideas, findings and reports to senior level client staff
  • Not afraid to attempt new work outside of their normal "comfort zone"

Technical Skills

Applicants must be able to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in some/all of the following technology areas: 

  • Enterprise Networking 
    • Local Area Network; fabric architecture, clos networks, QoS Schemas
    • Wide Area Network; MPS, SD-WAN
    • Wireless Technologies; Wi-Fi and Cellular (Small Cell, DAS)
  • Cyber Security and Network Access Control
    • Firewalls, IDS/IPS, Network Access Contol
    • Adaptive Persistent 
    • Identity & Access Management

An understanding of the practical design considerations and impact on the network in the following areas would be beneficial: 

  • Unified Communications and Collaboration (IPT/VoIP)
  • AV and Multimedia - Supporting AV platforms over IP
