Database Solutions Architect, Boston (Contract)



PTS Consulting is looking to recruit a Database Solutions Architect to provide technical leadership over database architecture and emerging database technology. You’ll be joining our growing team in Boston joining a fast-paced technology project. We’re looking for someone who is capable of leading change and not afraid to take risks and think outside the box. You must be flexible in your work approach and keen to inspire commitment, recognise trade-offs and embrace the project with a global and business perspective.

Your main role will involve working with the Client’s Architecture team to:

  • Assess/review Current State

  • Determine Desired Future State

  • Identify any divergence between the two (2) states

  • Identify any improvements to the existing PROD environment

  • Identify possible “quick wins.”

  • Contribute to the prioritization of the remediation planning

  • Provide validation criteria for the successful remediation activities

Please note that this is a contract role.

Main Responsibilities:

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Research and provide recommendations for a database technology roadmap, including cloud, on premise, and hybrid solutions.

  • Coordinate with risk and information security personnel to fully understand and consider in future state recommendations data security policies as required

  • Participate in system architecture reviews of new or existing data applications developing future state recommendations to guide and enterprise standards for data management and security

  • Evaluate data systems to support real-time integration and advanced analytics

  • Provide leadership and governance of development of best practices

  • Review and recommend the implementation, and maintenance of complex data systems.

  • Analyze large, complex systems to determine performance bottlenecks, application bugs, and opportunities to improve efficiency

  • Capture and analyze database activity to identify improvements in indexing, file structure, maintenance processes, and query performance

  • Perform assessments of security, backup/recovery, performance, load, and stress testing

  • Assess  changes to data models for new and existing applications performing impact analysis

  • Maintain and expand expertise in one or more technical skills through continuous self-study, training, and certifications.

  • Mentor other team members on latest industry tools and techniques.

Skills and Experience:

This role will suit someone with the following experience and skills:

  • BS or equivalent in related technology field.

  • 10+ years of experience designing, implementing and managing enterprise databases and data systems

  • Experience designing, implementing, supporting, and analyzing enterprise scale database solutions that perform extract/transform/load (ETL) operations with internal and external data sources

  • Knowledge of VMware, Software-defined Networking, Traditional Networking, Converged Storage and Networking, Hyper Converged Infrastructure, Microsoft Servers, Microsoft SQ, highly desired

  • Experience in ITIL or other formal SDLC methodologies and governance practices, highly desirable.
