Physical Infrastructure Consultant - London

 
 

 
 

PTS is looking for a Physical Infrastructure Consultant to join our growing team. As part of our Physical Infrastructure team, you’ll be required to:

  • Work as part of a multi skilled team, providing support to PTS consultants across a broad range of projects

  • Provide professional services in the physical infrastructure field to PTS clients throughout all stages of project strategy, design and implementation phases

  • Represent PTS in a professional manner at all times and exercises good communication skills at all levels with the Client and when representing the Client

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical consultancy to PTS project teams for Built Environment projects

  • Assisting other Physical Infrastructure Consultants in the development of client strategies

  • Developing documents and reports in a clear concise manner according to the recognised PTS formats

  • Assisting in the development of technical specifications for physical infrastructure products

  • Gaining a detailed understanding of the various physical infrastructure products and services relevant to the markets PTS operates in

  • Providing project status updates as required

  • Adopting PTS project methodology as required (see Procedures Manual) in development of project documentation

  • Ensuring proper evaluation and reporting of man-hours against project scope of works

  • Maintaining awareness of project deliverables and ensure PTS’ adherence to agreed scope of works; notifying the Commercial team and senior management when divergence occurs and/or the possibility of raising change requests as well as the tracking of the change requests

  • Attending and if applicable, overseeing weekly project meetings with the project team and client

  • Ensuring that technical skills are kept up to-date and continually improved with each project via ‘on the job’ training and exposure to vendor developments and systems

  • Travelling abroad to client sites and projects as necessary

 Technical Skills:

Ideally, you should have the following technical skills:

  • CAD capability, to be able to support their own projects and assist other consultants. Able to utilise architectural and M&E drawings and amend with physical infrastructure elements, create sketches and design drawings

  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of the design of copper and fibre optic Structured Cabling Systems (SCS)

  • Possess a knowledge of SCS standards including BSEN 50173 & 50174; BSEN 6701; ISO 11801; TIA/EIA 568

  • Have recent SCS project experience and at least five years’ industry experience, be aware of key manufacturers and installers of SCS

  • Be aware of power, cooling, containment and other building services systems that support IT and modern office buildings

Subject Knowledge Required:

  • You must have good industry knowledge and experience of SCS and Computer Room project installations

Relevant Necessary Experience:

  • You should have some experience in a technical SCS environment, including installation and QA.

  • Involvement in major Data Centre SCS design and implementation

  • An understanding of the complexities of structured cabling installations in construction environments

Background:

  • Ideal candidates are expected to have been involved in the SCS industry either in a design, installation or manufacturing role but may also have gained experience working in a client environment

Systems Knowledge:

A good understanding of the following technologies is ideal:

  • Unshielded twisted pair cabling systems

  • Screened twisted pair cabling systems

  • Fibre optic cabling systems

In addition, knowledge of the following supplementary technologies is desirable:

  • Ethernet, IP, AV systems, PBX/Voice systems

  • Building services

  • Construction projects

  • CAD systems
