Technical SME and Project Manager, Boston (Contract)



PTS Consulting is looking to recruit a Technical SME and Project manager to over see and manage resources (client and third-party vendor) relative to all discovery, planning, design, build, lifecycle implementation through decert/decom activities related to Solaris, AIX and Linux Services. You’ll be mostly responsible for creating technical design documents, hardware specifications, detailed implementation plans, process flow design, processes automation, technical documentation and training materials. Provide training for vendor staff to execute Lifecycle remediation activities for the Solaris and Linux Tracks.

We’re ideally looking for for someone with the ability to work well within a global team and possesses a strong work ethic. You must be well organized, action-orientated team player with the ability to prioritize daily work, change directions quickly, work with geographically dispersed cross-functional virtual teams and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Please note, that this is for a contract role.

Main Responsibilities:

Your main duties will include the following:

  • Working closely with business analysts and/or application teams or vendor representatives to understand business requirements and translating them effectively into system specifications

  • Reviewing systems specifications prepared by the GAD Discovery Team

  • Participating in system design with application development staff to confirm any re-coding requirement to effectively upgrade software

  • Effectively communicating requirements / resolves issues with application developers, application support and business analysts / users

  • Analyzing existing system logic and operation and developing recommendations for solutions to address application issues or enhancements

  • Participating in, or assist testing specialists with, preparation and execution of application tests

  • Demonstrating a high level of technical expertise to support UNIX infrastructure made up of Solaris, AIX and Linux

  • Collaborating with the client and vendor teams to create and maintaining System Run Books, defining day-to-day support, maintenance and troubleshooting knowledge base of the infrastructure.

  • Developing automation scripts focusing on the enhancement and efficiency of day-to-day tasks executed by the team as defined by the Project team

  • Managing system build and administration activities within assigned Tracks which include Solaris/Linus/AIX

Skills and Experience:

Ideally, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • Solaris systems administration and ideally additional skills in AIX systems administration experience within a banking environment.

  • Technical Skills required: Solaris 8, 10, AIX 5.0 & 6.0, Redhat, Veritas Storage Foundation product suite (VXVM, VCS, VVR), NFS, NIS, SAMBA, ORACLE, SAN Connectivity.

  • Individual must be experienced in the configuration, maintenance and administration of Sun Hardware from v240’s – M5000’s, x86 HP boxes and AIX P series servers

  • Expert with Redhat Satellite, Ansible, automation, and scripting

  • Experience with storage arrays SAN technologies, replication, and backup solutions

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Kickstart for Linux, Jumpstart and XVM/Opscenter for Solaris).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
